Today’s training session is focused on helping students take their spray painting skills to the next level. The group is learning how to spray gloss acrylic (aqua enamel) on doors, which requires patience, precision and the right equipment setup.
Last week, students worked with a flat finish on squash boards to practise the basics of spraying. This week, things become a little more technical. Gloss enamel behaves differently, so they are using a new product, a different spray tip size, and applying a more careful finishing approach.
Why Gloss Needs Extra Care
Spraying gloss is very different to spraying a flat finish. Because the surface is shiny, any imperfection will stand out clearly. This means students need to refine their technique and be more thoughtful with each movement.
Everything from the thickness of the coat to the position of the spray gun must remain smooth, even and controlled. Gloss door finishing is detailed work that demands careful technique, and it is great to see the students step up to the challenge.
Why Spraying Is Faster Than Rolling or Brushing
One of the biggest advantages of spraying paint is the speed of application. Once the equipment is set up correctly, spraying a door can take as little as 20 to 30 seconds. The finish is smooth and consistent, and the efficiency makes rolling or brushing feel slow and outdated in comparison.
Students always enjoy this part of the process. Seeing a full door coated evenly in under a minute feels rewarding and motivating.
A Supportive and Hands-On Learning Environment
Another highlight of these sessions is the way students support one another. Teamwork is encouraged and it is always enjoyable to see students helping, observing and cheering each other on as skills improve.
The training space is friendly, practical and engaging. It is an ideal environment for building confidence and learning real technical ability.
Developing Practical Trade Skills
Whether students plan to work in residential repainting, new builds, commercial projects or more specialised painting, spray painting experience is a major advantage in the industry. Practising with real products and professional tools gives students a strong foundation to take into real job sites.
